A Fisherman's Paradise

Cottage Point is the gateway to the magnificent fishing grounds of the Hawkesbury.

Consequently we stock a wide range of fishing bait, tackle and equipment to complement our hire boat fleet. Our outboard motors are kept in excellent running condition, and boat hire is available 7 days a week from 8am 'til 5pm.

We also suggest that you book your boat hire in advance due to the great demand as the fishing in the area is brilliant.

Some of the fish caught in the Cottage Point area, include Flathead, Whiting, Bream, Yellowtail, Garfish, Jewfish, Snapper and Hairtail.

Advice from resident local fisherman Ronnie Monsell is, "wherever possible, fish three or four boat lengths from the shore on an incoming tide".

FLATHEAD: Fish on the drift, along the sand flats. Use pilchards, white bait, squid on an incoming tide.
WHITING: Anchor over the sand flats at high tide. Use worms, or peeled prawns.
BREAM & YELLOWTAIL: Use squid, prawns, worms. Fish off the edge of the sand flats on an incoming tide.
GARFISH: Use a long shanked hook with prawns over the weed in the sand flats.
BLACKFISH: Use cabbage weed along the sand flats.
SNAPPER: Use squid, cut pilchard or yellowtail in deep water along the shore.
JEWFISH: Use squid, yellowtail or prawns on the half tide with a 4/0 hook, about four boat lengths from the shore.
LEATHER JACKETS: Use prawns. Have a heavy sinker on the end, two hooks up the line. Drop the line straight to the bottom and pull up immediately. Close to shore.
HAIRTAIL: Usually caught during winter in deep water near the shore. Use a 3 gang rig with a 8"-10" wire trace on a 20lb line. Use whole pilchards, whole yellowtail, whole mullet.
TRAWLING with lures. To catch Tailor, Benito and Kingfish. Have light wire trace to the swivel, then a no2 bean sinker on a 20lb line
